IV sedation for nervous patients
If you feel anxious at the thought of visiting the dentist, you are not alone.
We know that just calling the clinic is a big step for some who may have put off dental care for a long time.
Whatever the reason, we can help
Many of the people who call our clinic have some type of dental anxiety. Very often, dental anxiety stems from a traumatic experience in your youth, or from having been in pain at the dentist in the past. Sometimes the fear cannot be explained.
We have been specialising in sedation for over 60 years. Our caring and compassionate team takes pride in looking after patients with dental anxiety.
What IV sedation is like
Sedation, sometimes called ‘twilight sleep’, leaves you considerably relaxed and sleepy, usually with very little or no recollection of the procedure.
IV sedation may suit you if you:
- have high anxiety about dental treatment
- have a strong gag reflex
- need multiple dental procedures
- have a major fear of going to the dentist
Our team
Difficult extractions and wisdom teeth
If a tooth is particularly difficult to remove, or you are apprehensive, sedation can be offered.
Extracting wisdom teeth is not without risk, and needs a careful assessment beforehand, including X-rays, which we will discuss with you. Traditionally, many were done in hospital under general anaesthetic, but in experienced hands they can be performed safely in a general dental clinic under IV sedation.
